VICTORIA ROVER SCOUT CREW CREW LOGBOOK 1999-2000 |
|
Present: Dan, Dave, Sheryl, Katy, Baz, Cathy, Kerianne, Megan
After Dave spent a couple of months pushing the Wellington Area Rovers to work on linking activities he realised he would have to take a taste of his own medicine. Don the life jacket, jump on a raft and take part in the annual Rover/Venturer raft Race.
Along with a barrage of supporters Dave, Dan, Katy, and Sheryl ran their rather sad looking raft down the shores of the Pahatanui Inlet and started the very long course across the inlet.
We had noticed on the notices that there were two starting places depending on the wind. The reasoning became clear as the hosts (Ngatitoa Sea Venturers) took off to a huge lead with mast and sail flying. We decided in our very rushed discussion that the effort to get there was enough and we would turn back (it was obvious that it would be a miracle for us to make it).
We all starts to swim back and then shortly realised that Katy was actually having an Asthma attack…great timing. We hooned back and got some medication for her then threw the raft onto Dave's truck and drove around the inlet. we still made it there first despite the medical emergency we had aboard.
Many thanks to everyone who took part and especially thanks to Ngatitoa for organising the great afternoon.
